A 63-year-old Bexley man has been charged over the alleged hit-and-run that killed a New Zealand man metres from his home in Sydney’s east just after 4am last Sunday.
The young lawyer, Mitch East, 28, was found with critical injuries on Fletcher St at Tamarama, where he died of critical injuries.
7NEWS understands East had just stepped out of an Uber near his home when he was struck.

He was charged with failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death, dangerous driving occasioning death drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death) and driver use mobile phone when not permitted.
The arrest follows a desperate appeal to the public from East’s mother, Debra, who asked the public to help police to “find that car”.
Police called it “a cowardly act to drive away after colliding with another human.”
The Bexley man was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
