A woman is dumbfounded after her younger sister asked her to pay for her wedding — estimated to cost more than $100,000 — on the basis the older sibling was “wealthy”.

The siblings’ parents died some years ago, so “it was just her and her sister left”, the older woman said in a Reddit post.

She said she had done very well financially due to a very high-paying job.

And she said her younger sister thought this meant that she should cover the costs for her wedding.

“My sister and her fiancé are planning a large, extravagant destination wedding and the costs are adding up to over $100,000,” the older sister said.

She said the couple asked her to “pay for everything” as “she can easily afford it”.

The woman was taken aback at the couple’s request, which she refused.

She said she thought it was “totally unreasonable” and she was not “comfortable spending that much”.

Instead, she offered the couple $20,000 as a wedding gift.

The bride-to-be was was not happy at her older sister’s refusal to pay or with the offer of the $20,000.

She called her sister “selfish” and said she was “ruining her dream wedding”.

She also said it was her older sister’s “duty, as her only family to give her the perfect wedding”.

The bride-to-be is now refusing to speak to her sister until the older woman agrees to pay for the nuptials.

“I feel like I’m being fair by offering a generous $20,000 gift, which is more than enough to cover a nice wedding,” the older sister said.

The woman then asked Reddit users for advice and said, “Am I the a****hole for refusing to fund her $100,000 ‘dream wedding’ just because I’m wealthy?”

“I love my sister but I feel like she’s being a bridezilla and her request is totally unreasonable. Looking for some outside perspectives,” the woman said.

Her post garnered multiple comments and people were quick to side with the woman.

“I am at a loss for words,” said one.

“Your sister is being very entitled. Your gift is extremely generous. I hope she doesn’t squander her relationship with family because she wants your money,” added another.

“That’s crazy. She can’t expect you to pay that,” said a third.
