Police launched a search and rescue operation.
The child was found “in the community early this morning and has subsequently passed away”, NT police Acting Commander Kirsten Engels said on Saturday.
Police did not give the child’s age but described him as a “small child”.
Police are investigating.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
“We request that the family’s privacy is respected at this time and offer our sincere condolences for their loss,” Acting Commander Engels said.
